I opted out of driving to Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe as there would probably be more crowds and more disturbed snow than Taylor Creek Visitors Center in South Lake Tahoe. Compared to when the Visitor Center is open from about March to October, when the annual salmon festival is in full swing, the winter season is the quiet season.
As I encountered more people on the lake shore, I struck up a conversation with a local photog, discussion everything from tripods and post-processing to travel and the state of California. Like me, he wasn’t interested in scenic photographs of the mountains or the lake this day. He too was looking for the small things such as moss on trees.
