Bikini Bottom Rock, Lake, Mountains

(Bikini Bottom Rock) Sand Harbor, East Shore Lake Tahoe, NV

It’s Saturday, time to kick off those shoes and have a little fun with this post.  Yes, I’m still posting landscapes and I’m still posting the photographs from the Bonsai Rock / Sand Harbor area in Lake Tahoe, but there’s something strangely “wrong” with this photo.  Do you see it?  In fact, other photogs have discussed the injustice of what occurred here.  And I generally have to agree.  But since it’s there and I don’t see anyone going out to fix it anytime soon, we might as well take a snapshot of it.  The general thought is that there is a nude beach nearby and some folks just couldn’t resist painting a bikini on what appears to be a butt-shaped rock.  And yes, I made up the name “Bikini Bottom Rock”.  Maybe this post will etch that name forever into the future!  I could only imagine the uproar if something like this occurred in a frequented National Park.

And somehow “Project Mayhem” from the movie Fight Club comes to mind with the specific scene where they light two offices of a high rise building on fire and draw a giant green phosphorescent smile to make a huge smiley face.

The tree lined shore in the middle of the photograph is Sand Harbor State Park.  During the summer, the place is packed with beach goes since the nearest ocean beach is about 4 hours away.  The State Park is also home to the annual Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival.  During the winter months, the area thins out considerably.  There are many photo locations, but it does cost $10 to park your vehicle at the Park’s parking lot.  Here I’m about a mile south of the Park and am afforded free parking at one of the vehicle turnouts.  From other photogs descriptions, if you have the time and the conditions are right (no wind, glass-like lake surface, sunset clouds, maybe even snow) it is well worth the $10 for the photo opportunities.

The was the initial photograph taken that does not include the Bikini Bottom Rock, which is rather boring in retrospect:

  1. Hi Steven! I just nominated you for the ABC Award (Awesome blog award). I’m not sure this is something you would want to do (so I won’t be offended if you don’t :-)), and I’m not even sure I did it correctly, but I do hope that my mention of you in the post will bring some new blog followers your way. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Erica and thank you! You know what’s going to happen now right? I’m going to try and figure out my ABCs, which will probably take the better part of a day or two. I’ll be doing stuff around the house or yard while in the back of my mind I’ll be thinking, “What goes with K?” 🙂 So my ABCs won’t be up for a few days, but it will be posted eventually. And again, thanks!
