This grove of Cypress trees was on the list of potential compositions upon our arrival in Aptos, CA. It was not until the last morning that I had an opportunity to spend some time on the balcony of the hotel room with the camera. I have a feeling that the guests within view were probably thinking I was trying to peek into other rooms with the zoom lens!
As with all of my B&W or monochrome photographs, the post process starts with an export from Lightroom into Nik Silver EFex Pro 2. Most of the heavy lifting in SEP2 is accomplished through trial and error of previously saved presets. Slight adjustments to various sliders completes post in SEP2, with the files imported back into Lightroom for final adjustments.
The elements I focused on were the slender Cypress tree trunks contrasted with the perpendicular horizontal areas (sky and ocean) as well as the predominant horizon.
