Late day golden hour light reflecting off both the ocean surface and “bowling balls” rocks near Point Arena, CA.
After an entire day of shooting in the area, this was one of the last shots taken. Two separate exposures were taken of this composition. Both were at 1 sec shutter speed, but the first attempt was vastly different than this one. I had timed the waves to wash over the rocks during the first exposure. It appears like mist covering the rocks, but the golden light is greatly muted.
In this second exposure, the rocks are bathed in the yellow color with the texture of the rocks crisp and clear. Again, it is these variations that result in photogs taking 30-40 exposures of the exact same section of waterfall in Yosemite, and then spending time choosing “the one”. Clearly I am not as patient!
