Sacramento, Downspout, Shadows, Long Exposure

ISO100, 38mm, f/8, 30 sec
Downtown Sacramento, CA

Intersecting lines. Filtered colors in the shadows.

Photography leads me to strange places. Minutes earlier we had finished dinner at the well regarded Ella Dining Room and Bar, strolled past Chops Steakhouse where all the politicos from the State Capitol were enjoying themselves on the patio, and yet I ended up in an alley snapping shots of a metal downspout backed by a similarly colored concrete wall.

This is the part of photography that continues to capture my interest. We all love seeing the familiar photos. As photogs we love shooting those familiar photos. Why? Those shots are relatively easy. The difficulty might be finding a new and original angle.

What I focus on here is the pipe and the shadow being cast. Look closer. Between the pipe and the hard shadow is an intermediate area of orange. A half light, half shadow.
