After a days of meetings and more meetings, it is nice to be able to walk around and shoot in the late afternoon. If only I had not chosen possibly the hottest day this week to (again) walk along the burned out hills nearby. Still mentally relaxing though.

Despite looking for and finding compositions of contrast and lines, I happened upon this view of a turtle dove as I hiked up a hill following tire tracks amongst black ashes. After quickly changing to the longer zoom lens, I was able to take a few shots before the dove hopped off the rock. As with most turtle doves I have seen, its mate was nearby. You will usually see pairs of these birds unless something tragic has befallen its mate.

I really like where you went in your last 3 posts….. the semi-mono and very thought out comps make me rethink my vision…. thanks!!!!

Hi Mike, I’m always glad to give people a push with my photos! I’ve really been on a monochrome trend lately. The “weatherless” summer days just make everything boring and blown out, so it’s either looking for compositions with contrast or shoot at night. I haven’t been in many of my favorite urban jaunts lately at night, so it’s monochrome.
