June Lake Loop, Fall Colors, Mount Lewis, Parker Peak

June Lake Loop (Hwy 158), north of Grant Lake, CA

A grove of aspens just coming into color along June Lake Loop (Hwy 158).  The appeal of the Loop is the availability of so many “ready made” photo opportunities within its 15.8 miles.  I wonder if Hwy 158 is named as such because of its distance!

I am notoriously horrible with identifying the names of the mountains in the background, but I believe it is Mount Lewis on the right and Parker Peak on the left.

The only areas of Fall Color I had time to visit this year were the Hope Valley areas along Hwy 88 and some areas along Hwy 395 from Topaz Lake down to the June Lake Loop.

The trip reports on the Fall Colors for the weekend of October 12-13 are linked here:

  1. While I enjoy driving up to Hope Valley because it is closer and I can easily hit various locations and be back home in less than 8 hours, it doesn’t compare to many of these Eastern Sierra locations. The sheer number of trees and scenes is impressive. Sometimes, I want to spend time to view rather than shoot.

    1. Thank you James. While this area is riddled with groves of aspens, this particular grove is completely isolated among high desert scrub brush. From Google Maps it appears there may be a little bit of water source coming from the nearby lake, but you’re right it is out of place. http://goo.gl/maps/BI8HA
