For the first 2 years of my traveling to the Eastern Sierras for Fall Colors, I had bypassed June Lake Loop. Despite the talk on the internet and the profiles on guides, the view of the loop did not seem worth the effort from Hwy 395. That was a mistake of years’ past. When the trees are in form, “the Loop” gives you the biggest bang for the buck in relation in terms of least strenuous drives. There are six areas where trees are clustered within the 15.8 drive, including this view of Silver Lake and Carson Peak.

While sitting on the beach of this lake, a far-too-friendly duck decided to swim up, preen, and take a nap not more than a meter away. Head turned around and resting on her back, she would occasionally open her eyes to watch me when I moved here and there for a slightly different shot. I would later find out the Silver Lake Resort (with charming little cabins) has both a trout and a duck pond on their property.
