When walking through scrub oak grassland that is in the early stages of a large tract home development, there is some expectation of man made objects here and there. A sewer tunnel access capped with a manhole cover. Signs of infrastructure (fire hydrants, conduits that sprout out of the ground) and wetlands areas surrounded by black metal fencing. What was not expected was a vintage Dodge pickup truck tucked into a clearing.
Obviously the kids in the neighborhood have known of the truck’s existence for years. The truck is covered in spray-painted graffiti and lichen, now weathered, and cover by additional graffiti and more lichen. Empty plastic bottles and energy drink cans are scattered here and there.
Yet, in spite of it all, there is beauty here if you are willing to see it.
