Lee Vining (CA), Hwy 395, Fall Colors, Iconic Cabins

I first saw these cabins two years ago.  Dilapidated.  Maybe on its last legs.  Seemingly ready to fall with the next gust of wind.  In other words, perfect.  But I wanted to shoot these cabins at night.   Yet, when driving back north on Hwy 395 towards Lee Vining with snow dusted peaks in the background, Fall Colors in the distance, and incoming clouds, I made a decision to make a u-turn and take a few shots.

Meh.  Noticed how this image is does not contain mountains, clouds, or snow?  The time of day was not right.  Too bright.  This was maybe 10:30 am and everything was already getting that washed out look.  So I focused on the aspens in the distance through the door and window.  Yes, I need to go back and night and shoot the cabins again.
