67 shots. Despite being a bit disappointed with only a backlit silhouette of Round Island in Willapa Bay, I was determined to make the most of the opportunity by taking 67 shots of various focal lengths, positions, and variations of the fog passing in front of the setting sun. Of course, this opportunity only occurred after driving past the island, marking the location on my GPS, and then wisely deciding to turn around and stop for a few minutes for this image. If what you see makes you say “Wow!”, it is time to stop. It may never look the same or you may never be back again.
The initial thought running through my head was to mark the location on GPS and one day, some day, come back one morning to capture this scene with the island lit up. But really what are the chances, I will be back with those exact conditions? Not likely. A sketchy 3 point turn on a relatively straight portion on 2-lane Hwy 101 later, I was back here excitedly snapping away.
