Birds, Oak Silhouette, Clouds, Long Exposure

Autumn has finally arrived.  Up until 2 weeks ago, we were still touching 90F.  Last night we hit below freezing at 35F.  Of course autumn brings more clouds and colorful sunsets.

I have been thinking of more long exposure photos lately.  Nearby is a aggregate mining facility that occasionally has steam rising out of the building.  I checked yesterday — nothing.  Today — nothing.  Determined to use the 10-stop neutral density filter, attention was now on the clouds.  Great color, not enough movement.  Even with this 30 second exposure, it does not seem to be much movement.  Well, at least we have a good silhouette with birds and pretty darn good color contrast with the clouds.

Look at the composition now, I wished I could have somehow excluded the trees at the bottom of the photo.  It might have been possible had the camera been much lower to the ground.

Yesterday’s post, also with birds!:
